Initial Meeting
The process for each custom piece is as individual as you are. I’m experienced at leading clients through the journey of having their dreams brought to life while deleting the stress from the event. This is often the first time most people have had a piece of custom jewelry made for themselves or a loved one. Our initial conversation can be on the phone, Zoom, email, or face-to-face. We will discuss the type of piece you’d like to have made, who it’s meant for, and that person’s likes and lifestyle. When in Zoom calls or face-to-face meetings, I’ll often do quick sketches of ideas on the spot. From drawing to workbench, some freedom in design interpretation is important. Most of my work is made at my workbench. Some projects call for CAD rendering and/or 3D waxes printed and sent for casting. We will discuss the options that are right for you and your special project. We will also discuss budget. Pricing is based on the complexity of the design and the materials required to make it.
Obtaining a Quote
When a design is settled upon, I’ll provide you with a quote that contains everything about the jewelry item that we have discussed in our meeting. Upon acceptance of the quote, a deposit is made and work begins. Most custom designs are completed within 8 weeks to 6 months, depending on materials availability, design changes, and workload. Rush orders are accepted with an additional fee.
Work Process
I’ll take progress photos and send them to you. I find my clients enjoy this part of the process, and can see the labor of love in the creation of jewelry made by hand. Clients also have an opportunity to tweak design if needed, or come in for a test fit. Once your jewelry is completed, we will arrange for pickup or shipment to your location.
Sustainability
I feel a responsibility to the earth that has produced beautiful metals and gems for us to enjoy. I select the most sustainable sources for my materials.
All of the precious metals I use are recycled and obtained from high-quality suppliers. The gems I work with are ethically sourced or recycled, or lab-created. All treatments and conditions of stones are reported to my clients. When creating custom work, sometimes I am able to include metal from a piece of jewelry, gemstones, or scrap that you already have. Sometimes I do not recommend re-using metal. Gemstones or found objects in good condition can often be incorporated into a new piece of jewelry. I treat each instance of re-use of gems or metal on a case by case basis. In my studio, I maintain safe and responsible jewelry practices.
