Enamel Design
My enamel designs are two-dimensional kiln-fired enamel paintings on copper. Some enamels feature graphite or ink drawings, which are fired into the enamel. Other treatments include texture effects on copper foil pieces, which are individually enameled and the assembled into a cohesive design.
A multimedia installation piece titled “A Seat at the Dinner Party: The Art and Craft of Restoring Women to History” includes a place setting honoring Adrienne Rich, done in the manner of Judy Chicago’s seminal work “The Dinner Party.” The installation consists of an enameled dinner plate, embroidered table cloth, napkin, fair trade bamboo flatware, and a ceramic goblet.
Vitreous enamel is ground, colored glass. The kiln firing process fuses the molten glass to the surface of the metal at high temperatures. Some of the pieces here are available for purchase. Inspiration
For some recent paintings, above, I chose to work with images from Ernst Haeckel’s “Art Forms in Nature.”
Completion
The work inspired by Haeckel’s “Art Forms in Nature” are shown on display in my gallery in a show titled “Everything is Connected by Water.”
Place Setting for Adrienne Rich
